Between climate challenges and sustainable excellence

Despite increasingly unstable weather conditions and the presence of non-compliant products on local markets, we continue to champion 100% organic and traceable production. Thanks to our experience, our local network, and the rigor of our teams, we always find sustainable solutions to maintain the quality and consistency of our exports.

A modern unit dedicated to quality

For several years, Burkinature has gradually become involved in the processing of dried mangoes, first through partner units, then through its own initial experimental unit. The Nawelia project, launched between 2021 and 2022, marks the transition to a scaled-up drying unit designed to enhance the quality, traceability, and sustainability of production. Its ramp-up will continue over the long term.

Dried Mango – From orchard to bag: a fruit transformed

Instructions
To make this component work with other components you must:
  1. Add a background color to the section div above ↑ this Timeline section. This is will help hide the progress line overflow.
  2. Add z-index-2 class to the section div above ↑ this Timeline section. This will ensure the oveflowing progress line from the Timeline section below ↓ is hidden underneath it.

1. The orchard: fruit grown in rich soil

Our dried mangoes come from selected local varieties (Amélie, Kent, Brooks, Lippens, etc.), grown without chemical inputs in certified organic orchards in the heart of the Hauts-Bassins, South-West, and Boucle du Mouhoun regions.

Producers receive support throughout the year in the form of training (orchard school, gentle pruning, fruit fly control, etc.) and rigorous monitoring to ensure healthy fruit that is rich in flavor and natural sugars.

2. Harvesting: at full maturity

The mangoes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to preserve their quality.

They are then transported to the drying units within 24 hours.

3. Sorting and peeling

Each fruit is washed, sorted by hand, and then peeled by our teams, which are mostly women, using precise techniques that respect the texture of the fruit.

4. Cutting: precision craftsmanship

The mangoes are cut into thin slices by hand to ensure a uniform shape and optimal thickness for drying.

5. Natural convection drying

The slices are placed on racks and then put into natural convection gas dryers. The process takes between 12 and 18 hours at a low temperature (between 55 and 65°C) to preserve nutrients and concentrate flavors. No additives are used.

6. Packaging

Once dried, the slices are sorted again, packaged in non-vacuum-sealed PE bags, then sealed in cartons for export. All this is done under controlled hygiene conditions.

7. An ethical and sustainable industry

By purchasing our dried mangoes, you are supporting a certified organic, fair trade industry that values women's work, generates income for more than 3,000 rural families, and is part of a circular economy (recycling of pits, compost, etc.).

“Each dried mango is the result of collective effort, artisanal expertise, and a desire to help Burkina Faso grow with dignity.”
